Stuck at home, with your own thoughts, your own stresses, a lack of structure, and more free time than you may know what to do with, what do you lean to? Food? Alcohol?
Hopefully for some people this is not the case, but unfortunately for many right now, it is.
So many are eating and drinking way too much currently. The funny thing is that most of the time they’re not really hungry, it’s mainly out of boredom.
The unfortunate reality of the current situation is that many may not come out of this time as healthy as they went into it, and that’s the concern.
We call this the Quarantine-15, and our goal is to stay far away from it.
Just like a young adult going off to college free to make their own decisions, giving in to their inhibitions, and lacking structure, so many in these times are susceptible to gaining unnecessary weight. This process does not take long if left unfixed, and can be more difficult to come out of than you would hope.
There is good news though! It is all within your control.
Unlike the weather outside or when restrictions will be lifted, you are fully in control of what you put in your mouth, and what you have at your disposal. Don’t complicate it more than it needs to be. You are the one in charge of your own health, and don’t let any distraction make you believe otherwise.
If you’re currently in a physical place where you don’t want to be, make one step today in the right direction, and continue stepping that way. Once that becomes a norm, take the next step, and so on.
Here are 5 very simple things to control so you stay away from the Quarantine-15.
- Create a schedule and get into a routine – structuring your day structures your actions
- Make exercise a priority – your body, and mind, thrive off movement
- Only keep quality food around you – meat/protein, veggies, fruit, and nuts mainly
- Sleep 8 hours per night – your body recovers in sleep
- Stay hydrated – at least ½ your bodyweight in ounces of water per day
