Congratulations Tom!

1) How long have you been in CF?

Over 10 years. I started in August 2011.

2) How did you come across CF?

I had a friend who was doing it and then I saw a Groupon so I bought one for Carrie and I.

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

I love deadlifting, back squats, strict press, and bar muscle ups. My least favorite is anything that involves running. I set a new PR os my back squat at 326 a couple of weeks ago, which was a nice surprise because most of my PR’s are distant memories!

It’s very hard to pick a least favorite movement… ASSAULT BIKE. Of course it’s the assault bike.

4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?

I would like to improve my cardio and actually beat Carrie more than just on the days that involve muscle ups and handstand push-ups.

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

My favorite girl WOD is Grace, and Isabel is a close second.

6) Where are you from?

I am from East LA. So, I am pretty tough, lol. To be more accurate, actually East “of” LA…the San Gabriel Valley, La Verne.

7) If you could have one super power, what would it be and why??

Time travel. No doubt. I was a History minor, and am still a history junkie.

8) If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?

Cure cancer, cure cancer, and cure cancer.

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

My wife, Carrie, because she’s my favorite person. And then maybe my Grandfather who died when I was 7 and Carrie’s Grandmother who died before we met. It would be amazing to know them better.

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

My first ever flight was to Australia, as a 10 year old, with 3 other 5th graders. We were unaccompanied minors and we spent 6 weeks as exchange students. Needless to say, it really fueled my love for travel.

11) How has CF changed your life?

CF has not only kept me in (relatively) good shape, it has been my most important social outlet. Most of my favorite people are from Crossfit. It’s a place where I feel most at home and accepted.

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

I really love all the coaches. Eric was incredible in welcoming Carrie and I when we were looking for a new box. Corey gets me and knows how to get more out of me than I want to give on some days. It’s been great to “reunite“ with Rudy Mendoza, who was always one of my favorite CF friends. A lot of the original Ai crew is at Reform and the community here is the best I’ve ever experienced. Being able to work out with Carrie and have her challenge me is great motivation. She is a stud and I love to be able to share in the pain with her and all my friends at Reform.
