Congratulations Rhonda!

1) How long have you been in CF?

On and off since December, 2011.

2) How did you come across CF?

I was dancing about 15 hours a week as my form of exercise (tap, ballet, jazz and pole) and my now husband (then boyfriend of 6 months) gave me Gateway (on-ramp) as a Christmas gift! I started off at an all girls CrossFit box in Newport Beach. It’s crazy that he somehow knew what a great fit it would be for me. I had never done anything at all like CrossFit before so I was learning everything from scratch. Thank goodness I had patient coaches!

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

Hang Power Cleans and Backsquats are my favorite. Lifting heavy weights just feels great! Anytime there is a WOD that only involves the barbell I’m a happy girl! And if it’s heavy weight with low reps and built in rest that’s an extra bonus! I’m not a fan of anything that includes cardio!! Especially running! I also don’t like ring dips. I’m just horrible at those things! I own being on team last!! No PRs since 2017 but I feel one coming up in my near future!!!

4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?

I really want to be able to do bar muscleups. I’m jealous that my husband can do them and I can’t!!

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

Grace!! Does it get any better than an entire workout of only clean and jerks?? 🙂 I’ve done double Grace and heavy Grace and I must say that regular Grace is challenging enough for me!!

6) Where are you from?

I was born in Fort Bragg, CA. When I was young my dad was in the Coast Guard and we lived in a lighthouse!

7) If you could have one super power, what would it be and why??

I would want the ability to freeze time (is that a super hero power, I think it was actually considered an alien power) like Evie from the late 80s/early 90s sitcom “Out of this World.” Can you imagine what could be accomplished if you had the never ending gift of time?

8) If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?

I want to live a long life so I can watch my son grow up and experience all of the many milestones that life has to offer. I would get rid of COVID so life would get back to normal and thousands of lives would be saved. We took so much for granted before all of this craziness happened! I would save my last wish for a time that I needed to use it!

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

I would want to have a super fun dinner party, a night I would always remember. So I would invite: Britney Spears! I’m just obsessed with her!! Eddie Cibrian because he is HOT! And my husband so can could enjoy the party with me!! I would be really mad if he had Britney and Eddie over for dinner and I wasn’t invited!

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

In high school I was a part of the Disneyland Pigskin Classic where I performed in a Disneyland Parade and on the field at Anaheim Stadium.

11) How has CF changed your life?

CrossFit has completely changed my life. It’s the one thing that I do that’s for me. My husband says that the most excited he sees me all day is when I’m waiting for the WOD to get posted. CrossFit has taught me that in life it’s always me against me and that as long as I’m doing my best I’ve crushed the challenge. I’ve been able to push myself to limits that I never thought I would reach and there are no short cuts, putting in hard work pays off.

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

The coaches and the Dawn Patrol! I’m so thankful to have wonderful coaches that really care and that I can trust. Every single coach at CrossFit Reform has helped me progress in some way. They always give me the perfect advice because sometimes my brain and my body are not on the same page. I greatly miss everyone on the Dawn Patrol. When I started at CrossFit Reform about a year ago I was in really bad shape mentally and physically. I was welcomed with open arms and everyone made me feel so comfortable right away. Attending that class gave me something to look forward to everyday and I am really thankful for all of the friends I’ve made.
