3 1/2 years (I know, sad right?)
2) How did you come across CF?
I used to live 5 mins away from the original box I started at. I would always see it every time I went to the plaza or to 24HR Fitness next door. So one day I finally had to guts to walk in and take the class. I was hooked since….
3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?
Most favorite: Power Clean/Squat Clean. Least favorite: Thrusters and clusters (squat clean thruster). Recent PR: Power Clean 170#, Snatch 125#, Front Squat #195
4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?
I would like to finally get a ring MU, but realistically, I just want to be able to keep up with my husband and possibly beat him on some wods. (beating Josh is more a reality to me than getting a MU, ahah)
5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?
Grace & Diane, Falkel & DT
6) Where are you from?
Born and raised from the Philippines, but native to SoCal.
7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?
I think I would probably want to have mind reading power. I would like to know what is going on in a person’s head. I could become an asset to the government on figuring out what are the motives behind criminals acts or I can read my kids minds and know ahead of time when they’re up to something no good.
8) What did you discover about yourself during the OPEN this year?
This year is definitely the most humbling experience for me. Doing the wods made me realize how I have gotten really lazy and haven’t really tried lately which have caused me to plateau and my cardio/stamina to suffer. I am very competitive so not seeing my name on the gym leader board definitely left me with a bruised ego. Oh…. and if your husband is like mine, don’t make him judge you! haha.
9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?
I would like to have my late best friend James at dinner with me. He passed away on his 19th birthday and I didn’t get a chance to celebrate it with him. A few hours before he got into a motorcycle accident, he texted me telling me how he was waiting for me to come to his party. I want to let him know the reason why I didn’t show up is because I thought that party was just with his guy friends and that I am sorry. I still think about him often….I also want my late father in-law and Josh to be at the table with us. We could all use some closure form his sudden death and I really would like for him to meet his grand kids. I think the kids will adore him a lot and vice versa.
10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.
I am a good cook, but can’t bake. I can cook pretty much anything. And I can copy a recipe from a restaurant just by tasting it but I cannot bake for the life of me. It’s probably because I don’t like to follow instructions. But even then, it still doesn’t come out how it should be. I blame the oven.
11) How has CF changed your life?
CrossFit has become a huge part not only in mine, but my family’s life too. When I moved back to California, I had no friends or acquaintances. Through CrossFit, I have developed close relationships and a sense of community I can call family outside of my family. It has been an outlet for myself and for my marriage. And to see my kids enjoy working out as much as Josh & I do, it makes me feel like I am doing something right as a parent teaching, my kids to live healthier through living a fit life.
12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?
Every single member in this community inspires me. The coaches, you are all great and thanks for always pushing us to be our best. Dianne, she’s always smiling and very nice to everyone. Gary, seeing him at the open, squat snatching #105 after a knee replacement. Peter Pohl – I love this old man, I mean stud master. My old Cinco, new Reformers friends, Welcome, I am glad to see familiar faces again.
