Congratulations Kelly T.!

1) How long have you been in CF?

Beginning of March 2016 – started right around the Open.

2) How did you come across CF?

My friend told me about it while I was living in SF. Thought it would be a great way to combine some of the sports I participated in growing up (gymnastics and rowing) and my desire for a challenging workout environment! I went to SF Crossfit for one month and could barely do a push-up. I was too intimidated to continue and wanted to try again after I regained my baseline fitness. I found Reform through yelp after I moved to Orange County.

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

I love all the body weight movements (pullups, muscle ups, pistol squats, handstand pushups, etc.) The barbell movements intimated me, but I’ve since become friends with a few of them. Still scared of snatches and dread them in every workout. Also not a fan of any kind of overhead movement – probably one reason why I tend to avoid snatches…. Recent PR would be my deadlift which was 58# more than my recent “PR.” Also was pretty happy with my power clean at 148# which happened during barbell!

4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?

I want to push myself in a workout to the point where I have to immediately lay on the ground because I’m so tired. I remember when I first walked into the box I saw how exhausted people were after the workout and I told Eric – that’s my goal! Luckily there’s not a lack of inspiration at the gym…want to get out of my comfort zone and move faster. I’d also like to get better at cycling movements (especially barbell ones), be able to back squat 200# and would love to learn butterfly pullups. Oh! and one day I want to beat Dan in the mile run.

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

My recent “favorite” girl WOD is Fran because I’m determined to conquer that workout. I’ve done it twice and have gotten progressively worse! I really love Murph and loved the Barraza hero WOD we did during hero week with the deadlifts and burpee bar muscle ups.

6) Where are you from?

I grew up in the San Francisco bay area. I’ve been in Orange County for almost 2 years.

7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?

I’d love to be able to understand every language and be able to communicate with people from every country.

8) If you could guest star on any current show, which one would you pick?

I’d love to be on Whose Line is it Anyway. Or American Ninja Warrior – but I hesitate there because I would want to be more than a “guest” star. 😉

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

Robin Williams, MLK Jr. and Mark Wellman – the guy who climbed El Capitan with only his upper body after being paralyzed from the waist down in a climbing accident.

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

My mom is a voice and piano teacher and I grew up playing piano and singing. Obviously not a secret that I’m shy so I had fun surprising my friends and teachers by singing at my high school graduation.

11) How has CF changed your life?

Slowly building confidence and I am more focused during the day knowing that I get to go “play” at the gym after work and challenge myself physically and mentally. Love being able to set new goals and challenges. Ultimately surrounding myself with people who push themselves and want to be better is the best reward I could ask for.

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

Wow – the community at Reform is absolutely amazing. Everyone inspires me in different ways. Thank you to the coaches who have pushed me way past the point I thought I could go – I’m slowly getting better at “putting some weight on the bar.” Thank you to everyone who is faster and stronger than me – you are my constant motivation and inspire me to improve every day!
