1) How long have you been in CF?

I started at Reform a little over two years ago.

2) How did you come across CF?

Bring a friend day! It was great, I was hooked from the first workout.

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

My favorite movements are the Olympic lifts and the different variations of pull-ups and muscle-ups. My least favorite is running, I’ll usually try to recover during the runs to go harder on the other movements. Recently I’ve hit two lifetime PRs in the power clean (285 lbs.) and power snatch (215 lbs.). The last time I was able to do this type of weight was about 13 years ago as a collegiate track athlete (I’m good at running, but I still don’t like it).

4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?

When I started doing the Olympic lifts (20 years ago) my goal was to power clean 315 lbs. and power snatch 225 lbs. In college, I got up to 280 lbs. in the power clean and 205 lbs. in the power snatch and all of my lifting was centered around those two lifts. After college, I pretty much gave up on achieving those goals. But, now I’m confident I’ll get both.

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

My favorite hero WOD is Murph and my favorite girl WOD is Isabelle. I love Murph because of the tradition and respect that goes with participating in that WOD every year and the power snatch is one of my better movements so I’m halfway decent at Isabelle.

6) Where are you from?

I grew up near Pasadena and moved down here after attending UCI.

7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?

Wolverine’s super healing ability. It’d make post WOD way easier.

8) If you won the lottery, what is the first item you would purchase?

I’d buy my own private Island’s. It’s my favorite restaurant (I recommend the Protein Platter) and they have triangle crayons for the kids so they don’t roll off the table every three seconds.

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

I’m pretty fortunate that I get to eat dinner with my three favorite people every night, my wife Randi and my two boys Logan and Gavin…but I’m pretty sure that’s not in the spirit of the question. So, I’d say Mark Hamill (the most powerful Jedi and best voice actor of all time), Daisy Ridley (carrying on the Jedi tradition), and Harrison Ford (the best interviewee of all time). The only problem is that I’d be a terrible host because I’d be too star struck to say anything. At least they’d have a delicious, healthy meal at my own private Island’s.

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

I’m sure based off my answer from the previous question you could tell that I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I love all things Star Wars (movies, books, video games) and I’m pretty jealous of Corey’s tattoos.

11) How has CF changed your life?

I definitely had a “dad bod” when I started at Reform. But, since then I’ve lost about 20 pounds and all of my lifts have gone up. My nutrition has improved dramatically and Reform was the catalyst for that. I’ve been active my entire life, but I never thought that I’d be able to do the things that I’m doing or look the way I look now.

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

The entire Reform community is awesome and supportive. I have to give a shout out to the 5:30 crew and coaches (Dan, Corey, sometimes Ashley, and Jo on Sat. at 7) that makes waking up that early enjoyable. But, I also can’t thank all of the coaches enough. I think I’ve been in a class with every Reform coach and all of them are outstanding. Honestly, I never thought I’d be able to do what I’m doing right now and I have to give credit to the coaches. Thank you!!!
