1) How long have you been in CF?

8 months

2) How did you come across CF?

I have seen Eric at my work here in RSM for the past couple of years and talked to him about Crossfit, but I was too intimidated to try it.  It looked hard, and I thought I could never do any of the movements or heavy lifting that they did. In January, one of my co-workers was signed up for the on ramp, and she invited me to come along with her.  I decided to go with her just to try the first class and it was so challenging! I couldn’t even do one air squat or one push up correctly.  I felt so out of shape and I was motivated to get better….so I decided to sign up.  We were both so sore after all of the on ramp work outs and we would laugh about it at work because we could hardly move…At that point I knew that I was pushing my body out of its comfort zone and doing things I had never done before. It was a great feeling!

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

My favorite movements are box jumps and kettlebell swings.   I also like all of the push movements. People may think I am crazy, but I enjoy running too…. A movement that I dislike is the overhead squat….it feels really uncomfortable.   Recently, I completed my first WOD without using a push up bar for any of the pushups.

4) What have been your goals for 2016?

For the rest of this year, I would like to improve on all of the Olympic lifts. Also, be able to do a pull up.  In 2017, I’d like to compete in a beginner/scaled competition.

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

Helen was a good one, and so was “31 Heroes” a few weeks ago. I like WOD’s that have a lot of running in them and workouts where we do multiple rounds with both cardio and strength in them. I feel like I can really push myself during those.

6) Where are you from?

Newport Beach, CA

7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?

I’m a huge animal lover, so it would be to be able to have a conversation with my dog and have him understand and talk back to me.

8) What would you consider to be your “spirit animal” and why?

A sea otter. I don’t know why, but I really like them. They’re the cutest animals ever.

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

Jesus Christ, Chris Kyle (American Sniper) and my grandpa Al that passed away in 2006.

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

I am a brown belt in kenpo karate.

11) How has CF changed your life?

CrossFit has made me excited about working out again! Before joining CrossFit Reform, I was a 24-hour fitness member for years and would go to the gym every day and just run on the treadmill, nothing else.   My cardio was good, but I wasn’t really challenging myself or getting better at anything. If I got tired, I would just stop. Now, I don’t stop until the workout is over.   CrossFit has made me feel a sense of accomplishment, and I feel that every day after a workout. I look forward to going to the gym, and doing the WOD’s and don’t look at working out as a chore anymore.  It has also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, talk to new people, and not be as shy in a group setting. So many positive benefits

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

There are way too many people to list. For sure, all of the coaches for being so helpful and teaching me. Even if it’s something small, you guys all notice the small improvements and are always so positive and motivating. I’ve taken classes from all of you and enjoyed all of them!  Also, all of the regulars in the 6 PM and 7 PM classes. You all make working out a daily priority at the end of a busy work/school/life day and it’s so much fun working out with you guys (and girls) because we all  work hard,  and have fun too.
