Congratulations Jen!

1) How long have you been in CF?

I started CrossFit March 2016

2) How did you come across CF?

Funny how things change… Travis had been doing CrossFit for quite some time, and I didn’t think CrossFit was something I wanted to get into as I saw him come home from workouts sweaty and tired from the WOD he had just completed. I wasn’t sure I wanted to feel (or look ) like him after workouts. I was happy working out with my “swole sister”, Kerrie Higgins at 24 fitness. I went along with Travis to a competition where I met Eric and some other members, and also came to the Christmas party where I was immediately welcomed like family. I just knew I had to be a part of this awesome community. It was a few months after that Kerrie and I decided that we should jump ship and give it a try. I haven’t been back to 24 hour Fitness since.

3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?

I really like Double Unders. I made it my very first goal to be efficient at DU’s when I first started and I feel like I’ve got a pretty good grasp on them. As far as lifts go, I think the split jerk is my favorite, I recently made a new PR by 10 pounds at 145#! My least favorite is the snatch. I try really hard, but that one is a tough one for me.

4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?

I really would like to get better at more gymnastics all around, but more specifically I would like to be consistent on stringing pull-ups together better, and even learn how to eventually do the butterfly kip.

5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?

Hmmm, not really. I know I’ve done a handful of them, but I’m so bad at remembering one from another. What I do know is that I DO NOT like Murph, but DT is fun(ish) to do.

6) Where are you from?

I grew up in La Habra. With the exception of living in Boise for a year (2012-2013), I’ve lived in Orange County my whole life.

7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?

I think it would be fun to be able to read peoples minds. I’m already super inquisitive about people so that would be right up my alley.

8) What has been your favorite memory?

I have been lucky to have had many wonderful memories so it’s hard to pick one. Aside from getting married and having my children, a more recent memory was from the summer 2016. We spent a week in McCall, Idaho where we did a lot of outdoor activities. We cruised down the Payette river in inflatable kayaks and I was on a paddle board as we met head to head with a HUGE moose that crossed the river right in front of us. You don’t see those animals in California so it was the highlight of the trip and a memory that will forever make me smile.

9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?

Hmmmm…ok, don’t judge. Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, and Oprah. I know, weird combo. I love humor and love to laugh, dance, sing, and think deep thoughts. These people came to mind when I thought of those things I enjoy and who’d be fun to have dinner with.

10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.

Honestly, nothing. I’m pretty much an open book. I wish I could tell you I have all these crazy cool hidden talents, but I just don’t. What you see is what you get.

11) How has CF changed your life?

CrossFit has definitely challenged me in ways that are way different than anything I’ve ever done. I’m eager to learn more about proper lifting techniques and I’m hungry to get stronger and lift heavier. Some days are better than others. Some days I do RX workouts, other days it -1 or -2. It’s always a personal challenge (and sometimes a little friendly competition with friends is good) to try a little harder than the last time, or get out of my comfort zone to grow.

12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?

Without a doubt my hunky hubby, Travis, for always supporting and encouraging me. Coach Dan for always showing and helping me be better with form and technique. And for all my girls (Kerrie, Mariana, Rochelle, Riley, Abby, Jolene) who with all the love and camaraderie make CrossFit so fun!
