Congratulations Jeff P.!
1) How long have you been in CF?
I started twice. One time in January 2011 and did a one month “gift of CrossFit” and during that time I was flight training a lot, so I didn’t return in February. I then did another “gift of CrossFit” in January of 2012, and I have been going every week since.
2) How did you come across CF?
My Good friend, and Corey Smith’s Dad, Mike Smith was doing CF and suggested I come do it with him. He said, “everyone is doing it!” Haha.
3) What are your favorite movements/lifts? What are your least favorite? Any recent PRs you would like to mention?
My Favorites are the snatch, cleans, toes to bar and bar muscle up. I enjoy hand stand push-ups, pull ups, and walking on my hands (not very good at it, but is fun). My least favorites have to be the ones that cause me pain personally. I have issues with my achilles on my right side, so it makes running and jump rope difficult for me. I was recently able to string 4 bar muscle ups together as a PR.
4) What is one goal you would like to set for yourself regarding CF?
One of my main goals is to be consistent and injury free. When I started CrossFit my goal was to be able to do the majority of workouts RX, and I believe my body suffered because of that mentality. With the help of the coaches, I have learned to scale appropriately for me, and still get the most out of a WOD. I have also learned to listen to my body. Let it tell me when to back off or push harder.
5) Do you have a favorite girl or hero WOD?
So, my favorite Hero WOD is Falkel because of the Box jumps and HSPU. and my favorite girl is Isabel.
6) Where are you from?
I was born in Laguna Beach and moved to Mission Viejo when I was 6. I moved to RSM in 1997.
7) If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?
I would want to Fly, for sure!!
8) If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would purchase?
An airplane. Pilatus PC-12. It is a single engine turbo prob aircraft that seats up to 8 and can take off and land pretty much anywhere.
9) If you could host a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would you have attend?
I’m gonna go with Benjamin Franklin, George Carlin, and Malcom Smith. I think that group would make for some interesting convo.
10) Share one thing that people in the gym would not know about you.
If you haven’t guessed by now I am a pilot. I got my private pilot license in 2011. I have always wanted to fly airplanes and had a passion for planes and fighter jets as a kid. There is nothing like being in the air, and being in control. I’m also CrossFit level 1 certified and would love to become a coach someday.
11) How has CF changed your life?
CF has made me more resilient to life. When I started CF, I was overweight and even just walking up the stairs in my house took the wind out of me. I feel like being fitter and on a path of good fitness and well-being, makes all parts of life a little easier. Pushing to an uncomfortable place in the gym makes it easier to push through uncomfortable situations in work, hobbies, etc.
12) Would you like to give any shout outs to those in the gym who have encouraged you or inspired you?
Of course, I would love to shout out to the boys, Peter, Dane and Steve. They hold me accountable and make CF fun at the same time. I want to thank my wife Jacque for supporting me always, and Brittney for being such a great Friend in our life. I love all of the coaches and we have such a great community at Reform. It is amazing the people that are there, and how much they care. It makes fitness fun and exciting. I can’t wait to go tomorrow!!
